The presentation took place at a recent meeting of Harrogate Town Council, where representatives of the Regiment formally thanked the Mayor, councillors and residents of Harrogate for their continued support.

The silver salver marks the 20th anniversary of the formation of The Royal Yorkshire Regiment in 2006. The Regiment inherited the Freedom of Harrogate through its antecedent regiments, beginning with the West Yorkshire Regiment, which was granted the Freedom of Harrogate on 17 June 1945. This honour later passed to the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire in 1958 before being extended to The Royal Yorkshire Regiment upon its formation.

As Yorkshire’s local regiment, The Royal Yorkshire Regiment continues to maintain strong ties with communities across the county and remains proud of its connection with Harrogate.

Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Viv Poskitt, accepted the commemorative salver on behalf of Harrogate Town Council and thanked The Royal Yorkshire Regiment for its service and dedication.

The presentation is a reminder of the enduring bond between Harrogate and The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, a relationship the Council looks forward to maintaining for many years to come.
