The Council has published a formal Notice of Vacancy and residents are advised about what happens next and how they can take part.
- The Council must display a formal Notice of Vacancy. From the date that notice is published, ten registered electors for the Coppice Valley Ward have the right to ask the Proper Officer (the Returning Officer at North Yorkshire Council) to hold a by‑election. That request must be made in writing within the statutory period.
- If TEN valid requests are received by the Proper Officer within the 14 working‑day period set out in the notice, North Yorkshire Council will arrange a by‑election and publish the timetable. If no such requests are received in time, the Town Council may fill the seat by co‑option (appoint someone) instead.
- To request that the vacancy is filled by an election, write to North Yorkshire Council’s Returning Officer (Electoral Services). The North Yorkshire Council’s elections team can be contacted at elections@northyorks.gov.uk or by post to Proper Officer, North Yorkshire Council, Civic Centre, St. Luke’s Avenue, Harrogate, HG1 2AE.
We thank Councillor Wildmore for his service to the town during the crucial period of setting up the town council.
Further updates and practical details will be published on the Town Council website as they become available.
