The meeting was attended by councillors, community representatives, friends and family, marking the beginning of Councillor Poskitt’s mayoral year. Councillor Chrissie Holmes, representing Starbeck Ward, was appointed Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Poskitt becomes the first female Mayor elected by Harrogate Town Council and has outlined her ambition to focus on community wellbeing, partnership working and increasing engagement with residents across the town.
Drawing on her background in health and community work, Mayor Poskitt said she hopes to encourage greater involvement in local initiatives and promote Harrogate as a welcoming, inclusive and connected community.
During her speech, Mayor Poskitt also paid tribute to the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Chris Aldred, thanking him for his leadership during the Council’s first civic year and recognising the contribution made by councillors, staff and community partners in helping to establish and develop the Town Council.
Speaking following her election, Mayor Poskitt said:
“It is an incredible honour to be elected as Mayor of Harrogate and to serve the town during such an important period for the Council and the wider community.
I would like to thank the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Chris Aldred, for his dedication and leadership during the Council’s first year, as well as my fellow councillors, staff and community partners for their continued support.
I want to help raise the profile of Harrogate Town Council, strengthen partnerships across the town and encourage more opportunities for residents to become involved in community life.
Harrogate is a fantastic place to live and work, and I look forward to working with residents, organisations and community groups to help make it an even better place for everyone.”
The Mayor acts as Chair of Full Council meetings and represents Harrogate Town Council at a wide range of civic and community events throughout the year.
