A local GP with over 25 years’ experience, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, community wellbeing, and partnership working across the town.

Known locally for both her professional expertise and her creativity, Councillor Poskitt has actively supported a wide range of local initiatives. Her work includes fundraising for community causes, promoting active travel, engaging with residents and championing health and wellbeing across Harrogate.
In support of her nomination, Councillor Poskitt shared a personal and creative reflection highlighting her enthusiasm for the role and her experience in public speaking, community engagement, and representing organisations at events.
The Role of the Town Mayor
The Town Mayor holds a unique and important position within the community, serving both as the civic figurehead of the town and as Chair of the Town Council. In this dual role, the Mayor represents Harrogate at official events, supports local organisations, and promotes the town and its interests.
As Chair of the Council, the Mayor is responsible for presiding over meetings, ensuring they are conducted fairly and in accordance with the council’s standing orders, and supporting effective decision-making. The role combines civic leadership with responsibility for maintaining good governance and representing the views of the community.

Speaking ahead of the Annual Meeting, the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Chris Aldred, said:

Subject to her formal election, Councillor Poskitt will serve as Mayor of Harrogate for the 2026/27 civic year.
