The Notice of Election, which you can see in full below, was published on Thursday 12 February 2026.
If more than one valid nomination (people standing as candidates for election) is received, a poll will take place on Thursday 19 March 2026, with polling stations open from 7:00 am until 10:00 pm.
Standing as a Candidate
Anyone interested in standing for election must submit valid nomination papers to the Returning Officer.
Nomination papers can be obtained from North Yorkshire Council, as detailed in the Notice of Election. They are also available to download using the link provided at the end of this article.

There are strict deadlines for the submission of nomination papers and for candidate withdrawals. Registering and Voting
To take part in the election, you must be registered to vote. There are also deadlines for registering to vote, applying for a postal vote, applying for a proxy vote, and applying for a Voter Authority Certificate if you need photo ID to vote.

Voters attending a polling station will need to bring an accepted form of photo identification.
