The morning’s proceedings were coordinated by Harrogate Town Council, beginning with the annual parade and service of remembrance at the Harrogate War Memorial, followed by wreath-laying ceremonies at Stonefall Cemetery and the Starbeck Community Remembrance Service.
Civic Leaders Pay Tribute
The Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Chris Aldred, laid wreaths on behalf of the Town Council at all three sites, representing the new organisation’s ongoing commitment to remembrance.
The event was attended by The Mayor of the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority, David Skaith, and The Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Simon Mackaness, who joined the civic party in paying their respects.
Hundreds of residents lined the streets in the autumn sunshine to observe the Ode of Remembrance and a two-minute silence, followed by the sounding of the Last Post.
Parade And Services
After wreaths were laid, trainees from the Harrogate Army Foundation College led the parade through the town centre, where the civic party took the salute. The parade was accompanied by music from the Harrogate Band and Tewit Well Youth Band, whose performances greatly enhanced the atmosphere of respect and commemoration.
Following the ceremony at the War Memorial, a Remembrance Service was held at St Peter’s Church, while members of the Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Club conducted a further act of remembrance at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery at Stonefall.

The dignity and respect shown by everyone present reflect the deep sense of gratitude felt across Harrogate. We will remember them.”
