This full-time role, with a competitive salary ranging from £28,598 to £30,518 (SCP 12–16), reflects the Council’s continued commitment to strengthening its administrative and community-facing capabilities. In addition to a generous salary package, the successful applicant will benefit from enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme, providing long-term financial security.

More than just a desk job

The position is being pitched as much more than traditional administration. Described as a role that blends “people, purpose, and pride in Harrogate,” the Administration Officer will support the Town Clerk and Councillors across a broad remit – including the preparation of meetings, coordination of civic events, diary management, allotment administration, planning applications, and maintaining the Council’s digital presence.

“This is a frontline role where no two days are the same,” the Council states. “You will be the first point of contact for public enquiries and a reliable cornerstone behind the scenes.”

The right person for the job

The Council is calling for applications from individuals who thrive in dynamic environments, can multitask effectively, and remain composed under pressure. A strong sense of personal responsibility, flexibility in the face of changing priorities, and excellent people skills are central to the role.

Key attributes include:

  • Proven experience in fast-paced office environments
  • Confidence in handling public-facing enquiries
  • Competence in basic bookkeeping and purchasing systems
  • A willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to support civic functions

Adaptability and digital fluency are also highlighted as essential, with the successful candidate expected to lead on online communications and administrative efficiency.
