York’s Little Ghost Hunt returns – with twice as many spooks

Beware – York’s annual Little Ghost Hunt is back, this time with twice as many spooks…

The hunt runs from today (Monday) until Wednesday between 6pm-8pm.

Its part of the seventh annual York Ghost Week, which runs till Sunday. Organised by famous city shop the York Ghost Merchants, you can find the full programme here.

A total of 250 of the Merchants’ ceramic home-made ghosts will be hidden around the city over the three days of the free hunt. Find one – and you can keep it!

Also this evening (Monday), at Holy Trinity Church on Goodramgate between 6pm and 8.30pm, there will be a free Mouse Hunt, by candlelight.

It’s aimed at families with younger children and will include chocolate prizes for those who find the mice.

The unique “little ghosts” are treasured by people all over the country with people queuing for hours to visit the York Ghost Merchants shop on Shambles.

Organisers have said that this year they will be working with a local security company in order to help manage the challenge of being so popular.

They urge their visitors to treat shop merchants with kindness and understanding during this busy Halloween period.
