A teenager died of multiple injuries after a crash in North Yorkshire, an inquest heard.

Assistant North Yorkshire coroner Catherine Devereux opened the inquest into her death in Northallerton on Friday.

Crash location

She said that Ellie, from Scarborough, was in a road traffic collision and pronounced dead at the scene.

The provisional medical cause of death was given as multiple injuries and blunt force trauma.

Ms Devereux has adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.

Police closed the A59 in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene.

They said the incident involved a black Vauxhall Corsa which was travelling towards Harrogate.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said at the time: “We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or the Corsa in the moments leading up to it, or has dashcam footage that may have captured something.

“We are also keen to speak with the driver of a white HGV that was travelling in the opposite direction at the time, as they may have seen something that may help with our enquiries.”
