BRADFORD is set to take centre stage in a gritty new comic series.

Northern Noir, a six-issue crime comic and graphic novel series set in 1970s West Yorkshire, will launch on Kickstarter on November 3, 2026.

The project is the brainchild of Bradford-born creator Anthony Riach and is being developed through his independent production company, RIACHBROS Entertainment.

Mr Riach said: "We wanted to build something deeply grounded, authentic, and rooted in the true grit, history, and atmosphere of West Yorkshire.

"To partner with world-class talent like Charlie Adlard while keeping our production strictly independent and locally driven right here in Bradford is a massive milestone for us."

The creative team includes acclaimed comic artist Charlie Adlard, best known for his work on The Walking Dead.

Adam Tomkins of Altered Carbon is serving as the lead interior artist, with Emmy-nominated Roy Huteson Stewart as colourist, and Saida Temofonte of DC and Marvel handling lettering and title design.

The story follows a team of investigators navigating corruption, organised crime, and unresolved cases against the industrial landscape of 1970s West Yorkshire.

In a unique twist, the team has launched a 'transmedia' feature—a fully operational 1970s police wiretap hotline.

Members of the public can call +44 01274 015474 to listen to classified, recorded case logs, wiretapped conversations, and ambient soundscapes tied directly to the comic’s storyline.

Northern Noir #1 will be available through Kickstarter, where supporters can purchase physical editions, limited-edition variant covers, and exclusive rewards tied to the Bradford area.
