Amanda Owen battles through storm to sign books by torchlight as power cut hits event

YORKSHIRE Shepherdess Amanda Owen battled through flooded and blocked roads yesterday (Sunday) for a book signing in Grassington.

Along with her three daughters, Amanda, who farms in Upper Swaledale, negotiated floods and blown-down trees courtesy of Storm Boelo, for a return visit to the Stripey Badger bookshop, where she signed copies of her new books, Cosy Bedtime Stories from the Farm and Christmas Tales from the Farm.

There were plenty of people waiting to meet her, including Dales Radio, and when the lights went off, due to a power cut in Grassington, the signing continued thanks to people's mobile phone torches.

Linda Furniss, owner of The Stripey Badger, said: “Despite having no power Amanda set off with her three daughters for our book signing.

“We had a fabulous book signing with our equally brave customers queuing up to chat and get books signed. They're are amazing, fun and friendly family, we can't thank them enough.”

Amanda Owen is a regular at the bookshop, and her visits are always very popular.
