Residents could be affected by power cuts across parts of the Bradford district as engineers continue work to restore supplies following the impact of Storm Boelo.

Areas including Shipley, Menston, Keighley, Riddlesden, Ilkley and Otley appeared to be affected on Monday morning, with outage maps showing numerous reports of power issues across Airedale and Wharfedale.

Six communities affected

Based on the Northern Powergrid's website, the electricity network's power cut map showed clusters of reported outages in six communities across and around the Bradford district.

One of the largest concentrations of reports appeared to be in the Menston area, while additional reports were recorded around Shipley, Keighley, Riddlesden, Ilkley and Otley.

The outage map also indicated scheduled work in the BD17 area of Shipley.

Engineers battle storm conditions

In an update issued at 9am on Monday, the network operator said it was continuing to respond to the effects of Storm Boelo.

A spokesperson said: "The challenging weather conditions are significantly affecting our network and our ability to work safely to carry out repairs.

"Strong wind impacts our ability to work at height, and it can take longer to get the power back on."

The company said engineers were working to restore power to the remaining customers affected by the storm and advised residents to check the power cut map for the latest estimated restoration times.

Support offered to vulnerable customers

The network operator said customers whose estimated restoration time was listed as 11pm should expect power to be restored by then based on current assessments, although more accurate updates would be provided as work continued.

It added that members of its Priority Services scheme would be contacted to discuss any additional support that may be available.

The spokesperson said: "Supporting customers is always our priority. We know some customers may be without power for an extended period of time, and we want you to know we're here to support you, 24/7."

Advice for residents

Residents are urged to call 105 if they found themselves in a dangerous situation, if there was a risk to life linked to a power outage, or if they were medically dependent on electricity.

The operator also advised anyone experiencing a medical emergency to call 999 immediately.

Storm Boelo brought strong winds across West Yorkshire over the weekend, leading to disruption on roads, fallen trees and ongoing efforts to restore power to affected communities.
