A popular Mexican restaurant in Sunderland has announced its closure.
Mexico 70, located across from the Sunderland Empire, has been loved by many loyal customers and was described by Radio 1 star Greg James as offering "top food" and "great people" during his visit earlier this year for Sunderland's Big Weekend.
The Mexican restaurant, which had reopened in 2024, confirmed in a statement on social media that it will not be reopening again.
A spokesperson for the restaurant said: "Making this post has been devastating for us all, but we have to say goodbye.
"The past almost nine years have been class.
"We definitely made the right choice to reopen back in 2024.
"We’ve made good memories, reunited with our OG customers and met many more new customers along the way."
The team also thanked patrons for their support over the years.
The statement continued: "We wouldn’t have got as far as we have without our hardworking staff, who show up every day and have made Mex 2.0."
Fans of the restaurant shared their disappointment on social media, calling the closure "such a shame" and describing Mexico 70 as "so unique."
Many said they were simply "gutted" to see it go.

Despite the closure, the Mexico 70 team will continue serving food at Atletico 70, its street food venue based at Ashbrooke Sports Club.
The spokesperson added: "You’ll still see a few of us at Atletico 70 at Ashbrooke Sports Club serving burritos and gringas; you haven’t got rid of us that easily."
Mexico 70 was known for its Taco Tuesdays, margaritas, and popular late-night events.
