A woman in her 60s has died after being hit by a car in the North East.

The incident happened at around 3.10pm on Sunday (October 25) on Mare Close in Seghill, Northumberland, when a grey Range Rover Sport hit a person near the entrance gate to a field.

Emergency services attended and the pedestrian - a woman in her 60s - was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Despite efforts to treat her, she sadly died as a result of her injuries later that day.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist Northumbria Police officers.

An investigation into the incident is now underway, with officers appealing for witnesses and footage which could help establish what happened.

The Range Rover driver stayed at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who has sadly died in this tragic collision.

“We will continue to offer them all the support they need and would ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
