Mortimer has long been open about his love for the North East. He has often discussed his childhood in Middlesbrough along with memories of his late parents, as well as how his Teesside upbringing has shaped him as a person and a comedian.

Their earlier Teesside Christmas special also featured the Transporter Bridge, Staithes and Mortimer's childhood home, alongside fishing on the Tees and Esk.
