More than 240 banks owned by Lloyds Banking Group are facing closures between May 2026 and March 2027, as more customers move online.

Lloyds Banking Group, which also owns Halifax and Bank of Scotland, will be closing 17 branches — nine Lloyds banks and eight Hallifax branches — moving away from in-person services as more customers use online banking.

It comes as the banking group closed 23 branches in October, in Birmingham, Nottingham and Southampton. It’s also closed three Halifax branches. Over the summer 95 branches were closed across its high street network.

Although these banks will be closing next month, customers will still be able to access in-person banking services at any of Lloyds' brands, including Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Customers will be able to make withdrawals, deposit cash and pay in cheques.

There will also be banking hubs, which are shared spaces where staff from different banks operate on various days, providing essential services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments. As of February, there were more than 200 hubs up and running around the UK.

Lloyds Banking Group said on its website: “When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers – including how they continue to access banking services.

“Because of this, we may sometimes have a Community Banker visit the area after the branch closes. Or as part of an independent review a Banking Hub or Deposit Service may be set up in a nearby location.

“We follow Financial Conduct Authority guidance when announcing closures.”
