Mobile zoo brings unusual visitors to Boroughbridge care home

Residents at Boroughbridge Manor care home enjoyed an unusual visit when a mobile zoo brought snakes, geckos, a tarantula and a tortoise into the home.

Zoo Lab visited the Boroughbridge care home on Friday 16 October, giving residents, staff and visitors the opportunity to get close to a variety of animals in the home’s lounge.

General Manager Lynnette Sellers said the visit had been enjoyed by residents, including those who find it difficult to go on outings.

Lynnette Sellers, General Manager at Boroughbridge Manor, said:

Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the mobile zoo here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.

We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.

Resident Clive also welcomed the opportunity to see the animals up close, recalling his childhood experiences with animals on a nearby farm.

Clive, a resident at Boroughbridge Manor, said:

As a child I used to love all the animals on the nearby farm. Today was very enjoyable and it was wonderful that the animals were free to roam amongst us.

Boroughbridge Manor is run by Barchester Healthcare and provides residential, respite and dementia care for up to 81 residents, from short stays to longer-term care.

The visit was part of the home’s programme of activities aimed at providing residents with new experiences and opportunities to enjoy time together.
