AN E-bike rider has had his vehicle confiscated after police spotted him riding near York city centre.

Tarek Daoud also faces a total court bill of £242 and now has penalty points on his licence.

The city's magistrates heard the 29-year-old of Roche Avenue, off Huntington Road, York, was not insured for his journey on January 1 along James Street.

He pleaded guilty to riding an Allegro E-bike without insurance.

York magistrates put six points on his driving licence, fined him £80 and ordered him to pay £130 prosecution costs and a £32 statutory surcharge.

They also ordered that the Allegro E-bike he had been riding be confiscated.

Allegro E-bikes cost more than £1,000 each when purchased new.
