A PARISH council has hit out against plans made by developers stating that their road layout will create "a hazardous environment" for those using the village's main road.
Wilberfoss Parish Council says it is opposing plans for a new road layout that will be created when a new 70 home development is built in the village - stating that there are serious concerns for safety and 'the long-term wellbeing' of residents.
As reported by the Press in February, East Riding of Yorkshire Council approved an application from housebuilder Crest Nicholson for the proposed development for 2.45 Hectares of agricultural land north of Main Street in Wilberfoss.

At the time, the developer said "the proposed layout will create a distinctive high quality residential development which is sympathetically designed to respect the surrounding built and natural environment."
However the village's parish council argues that the new proposed road design - which will see a junction added to Main Street and a bus stop added closer to the main road - will create "a hazardous environment" at one of the village’s busiest junctions.
They said this issue is particularly bad for vehicles arriving from the A1079, which would need to wait in an unsafe location if a new bus stop was moved to the location.

A spokesperson for Wilberfoss Parish Council said that they raised this issue during public consultation but that it was 'not acted upon' at the time.
They said: "Crest Nicholson stated in May 2026 that it was unable to change its approved plans because the planning and technical approval process was already too advanced to accommodate changes without causing delay, but they submitted an amendment to the S106 agreement in early September 2026.
"If it can reconsider the way it approaches affordable housing, it should be able to make the streets of Wilberfoss safe for residents."

The council has instead suggested that the junction is placed at the bottom of Wilberfoss Hill so that traffic flows freely off the A1079, as it does now, and move the bus stop further along Main Street towards the village centre.
The spokesperson said the parish council's proposal would reduce turning conflicts, improve safety for bus passengers, and 'better reflect the realities of traffic entering the village'.
