Strong winds from Storm Boelo have caused power cuts across the Bradford district.

Northern Powergrid has reported widespread disruption across the North with nearly 25,000 customers affected by power cuts.

According the Northern Powergrid's power cuts mapping system, several properties in the Bradford district this morning were still affected by power cuts.

Baildon, Cullingworth and Denholme were among the worst Bradford areas affected, but Eldwick, Thackley and Wibsey also had properties without power.

The Cross Hills area appeared to be the hardest hit local area, with Silsden and Cowling also having properties without power.

The mapping system also reported that properties in Pudsey and Rawdon had power cuts.

A spokesperson for Northern Powergrid said: "The severe weather brought by Storm Boelo is causing widespread disruption across our region, particularly in the North East and North Yorkshire, affecting around 24,000 customers.

"We have restored supplies to over 14,000 customers through remotely reconfiguring our network, leaving around 9,100 customers currently without power.

"Strong winds and heavy rain have caused damage to the electricity network, with conditions continuing to worsen and the forecast to persist for much of the day.

"Our teams are working to assess the damage and restore supplies wherever it is safe to do so.

"However, the severity of the weather is affecting both our ability to assess the network and carry out repairs safely.

"While we are experiencing the worst of the storm, we are not providing estimated restoration times.

"We will provide these as soon as conditions allow us to assess the damage and give customers a realistic estimate of when their power will be restored."

The company said their engineers and support teams are working to restore power as safely and quickly as conditions allow, which means:

  • Engineers and support teams are responding to power cuts across the region.
  • Teams are responding to incidents and making repairs where it is safe to do so.
  • Resources and equipment are being deployed to support restoration efforts in the worst affected areas.
  • Network operations teams are monitoring conditions and managing incidents as they develop.

If anyone has experienced a power cut, Northern Powergrid said people should do the following:

  • Report and track a power cut at northernpowergrid.com/power-cuts and receive real-time updates sent to your phone.
  • If you can't get online, call 105, the free national power cut reporting number.
  • Use battery-powered or wind-up torches instead of candles.
  • Keep fridges and freezers closed for as long as possible.
  • Leave one light switched on so you’ll know when the power comes back on.
  • If it’s safe to do so, check on neighbours, friends and relatives, if it’s safe to do so.
