Take a look inside Hopetown Darlington's spooky Halloween transformation

Hopetown Darlington has undergone a spooktacular transformation for Halloween, with families invited to enjoy a host of ghostly activities during the half-term break.

The popular attraction has become Spooktown, offering a range of Halloween-themed adventures from October 24 to November 1.

Visitors can explore eerie encounters, discover mysterious railway spirits and enjoy spooky surprises around every corner.

One of the highlights is the Ghost Train experience, which centres around a mysterious locomotive that appeared overnight in the Carriage Works.

According to the spooky tale, no one knows where the train came from.

With no driver, no name and no tracks leading to it, rumours have spread that it may be haunted.

Visitors can explore the attraction while listening out for the sounds of clanging chains, distant footsteps and whispers in the darkness.

New for 2026, brave youngsters can also make their way through a maze before reaching the Ghost Train, navigating shadowy pathways and eerie surprises along the route.

A bypass option is available for those who would rather head straight to the haunted locomotive.

Families can also take part in the Trick or Treat Trail, where the ghosts of the railway have scattered Halloween magic across the site.

Children can collect a free activity pack from the Welcome Desk in the Goods Shed before following clues, solving challenges and completing spooky tasks to earn Halloween treats.
