The Met Office had warned that some of the strongest conditions would be felt across northern parts of the UK, with gusts of 60mph to 70mph expected in amber warning areas and the possibility of 80mph in exposed coastal locations.

By Sunday morning (October 25), many people woke to find trees and large branches brought down overnight, with debris on roads causing delays and forcing some drivers to find alternative routes.

Rail services were also badly affected, with services cancelled, delayed and altered as the storm swept across northern England.

Passengers were repeatedly urged to check before travelling, while Northern advised people not to travel across its network on Sunday.

There was disruption in the skies too, with flights affected and diversions taking place during the weekend.
