An easyJet flight bound for Newcastle Airport was diverted to London Gatwick after setting off from Majorca this morning.

Flight U27255/EZY7255 left Palma de Mallorca at 6.23am today (October 25), having been scheduled to depart at 6am.

The flight had been due to arrive at Newcastle Airport at 8am but was instead diverted to London Gatwick.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 lists the service as “Diverted to LGW”, confirming the change of destination.

The service was operated by an Airbus A319, with the registration OE-LQA.

It comes as Storm Boelo continues to cause widespread travel disruption across the North East, with strong winds affecting road and rail travel across the region.

A Newcastle Airport spokesperson said: "Due to high winds caused by Storm Boelo, several aircraft have been diverted to other airports.

"The latest information regarding flight status can be found on the Airport website and if passengers have any further queries they are advised to check directly with their airline."

An amber weather warning is in place across Scotland, northern England as far south as Carlisle and north-east Northern Ireland, with gusts potentially exceeding 80mph.
