Two popular Darlington restaurants are battling for one of the UK curry industry's biggest honours after reaching the finals of a major regional award.
Babul's and Café Spice are finalists for North East and Yorkshire Restaurant of the Year at the 19th Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) Awards 2026.
They will face Starbeck Tandoori in Harrogate and Vadah in Stockton, with the winner announced at a London ceremony on November 1.
The annual awards honour the chefs, restaurateurs, staff and entrepreneurs behind British Bangladeshi restaurants and takeaways.

Organisers said the finalists were recognised for supporting customers and communities as restaurants face rising costs and staffing pressures.
Judges will choose the winner on food quality, service, hospitality, presentation, consistency, innovation and customer experience.
They also recognise chefs, staff, business leaders and rising talent across the industry.

BCA President Oli Khan MBE said: "Reaching our 19th BCA Awards is a proud moment for the Association and our industry.
"This year's theme, 'Honouring today's achievements, inspiring tomorrow's success', reflects the spirit of everyone who has built this sector, from the pioneers who opened the UK's early curry houses to the chefs, families and entrepreneurs shaping its future.
"Our shortlisted restaurants show the skill, resilience and ambition that continue to make this industry such an important part of British life."
Cafe Spice was previously named the BCA's best Indian restaurant in the North East in 2019, adding to the Darlington restaurant's record of recognition from the association.
Cafe Spice was also listed as the 2022 National Curry Awards' Restaurant of the Year for the North East.
