Leeds Bradford Airport chaos as Storm Boelo forces plane to 'circle three times'

An amber weather warning for wind is in place across parts of the region

High winds have forced Leeds Bradford Airport to cancel flights as Storm Boelo ravages the nation.

An amber weather warning for wind has been put in place across parts of Yorkshire, and much of the north of England and Scotland. The warning is in place until 9pm on Sunday October 25, with power cuts expected to occur, some damage to buildings and disrupted travel.

Already, arrivals have been diverted away from the airport, with passengers from Dublin, Palma, Krakow, London Stansted and Malaga now facing further delays.

Arriving flights were also cancelled, including one due to arrive from Amsterdam at 9.40am and another at 11.20am from Belfast International.

A number of departures have also been cancelled, including the 8.30am to Dublin, the 8.30am to Belfast City, the 8.40am to Palma and the 8.45am to Malaga.

The flight coming in to land at Leeds from Malaga at just after 8am was said to have passed by three times.

In Leeds, the highest gust of wind today is expected to be 58mph.

A spokesperson for the Met Office forecasted: "Heavy showers in the morning, gradually fading, with a few brighter and drier spells later. Another stormy day, with gales affecting some places and very strong gusts at times. The wind gradually eases by the evening, but it remains breezy."
