A new book aims to open doors to creative careers for young people.
Creative Careers Unlocked, written by East Riding author and creative industries specialist Emily Maguire, is set to be published on November 6, 2026 by Trotman.
The book offers practical advice and real-world insights into the UK’s creative economy and highlights the broad range of roles available.
Ms Maguire said: "As the saying goes, 'You cannot be what you cannot see.'
"Coming from a working-class background and stumbling into the arts by chance over 20 years ago, I had hoped things would now be more equitable.
"Yet structural barriers still dictate who gets in and who does not.
"I wrote Creative Careers Unlocked to help make creative careers more visible, understandable and achievable for young people from all backgrounds."
The guide is designed for students, parents, teachers and careers advisers and includes classroom activities, case studies and interviews.
It also addresses the impact of AI and automation on the industry, and provides strategies for making creative pathways part of the curriculum.
Ms Maguire is a Level 7-qualified career development consultant with more than 20 years of experience in the creative and entertainment sectors.
