A police cordon was in place in York city centre as officers responded to an incident.
Silver Street, near Shambles Market, was taped off and a police guard put in place from about 5.30am on Saturday (October 24).
The cordon was lifted by 10.30am and police had left the area by 1pm.
Traders at Shambles Market said police were on the scene as they arrived for work on Saturday.
One trader said Silver Street was taped off from the Goldee's Bagels truck to the corner of Dough Eyed pizza.
Traders said police did not reveal what the incident involved.
