Film crews spotted in York and North Yorkshire as area becomes a hotspot for new movies

North Yorkshire continues to be a hotspot for filming – as several film crews have been spotted throughout the county.

And that trend continues, as eagle-eyed residents and locals have

One that’s been spotted up and down the North Yorkshire coast is Zoltar, the working title for the six-part Netflix drama inspired by* Tales of the Unexpected* by author Roald Dahl.

It stars iconic names such as Imelda Staunton, Nicola Coughlan, and Toby Jones.

It’s been reported that crews have been seen filming in Scarborough around Eastborough, William Street and the Harbour Bar, with further filming up the coast at Whitby and Saltburn.

One tourist in Whitby remarked that “We watched the filming yesterday right outside the cottage we have been staying in all week.”

And that’s not the only filming that has been seen in the Whitby area. This week, several film-production vehicles were seen at Whitby’s Back Marina car park. Though it is unknown what production they may have arrived to film, it is reportedly associated with Apple TV.

Local residents have commented that the same film crew have also been seen filming in Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay.

Filming has also been in York too!

York-based screenwriter Dave Thorp and production company Picture Point Films have started filming for Christmas film The Santa Express, starring* Doctor Who* companion Peter Purves and singer Toyah Willcox.

The crew were spotted in York earlier this month, and will also be working with North Yorkshire Moors Railway as one of their significant locations.

It’s impressive to see York being used once again as the backdrop for a festive film, with previous hits including Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint which featured national treasure andTraitors star Richard E Grant.

Another Toby Jones-led film has been seen filming across Yorkshire too – with Mackenzie Crook’s directorial debut Mars Express, also starring Emily Watson, reportedly shooting at York BioTech Campus as a backdrop for the European Space Agency.
