A man has been jailed for causing a pensioner's death after a confrontation at a bus stop.

Thomas Childe, 24, of Oak Crescent, Garforth, was jailed for six years and eight months at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, October 23, after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Childe pushed 79-year-old Colin Starbuck to the ground after a verbal argument on Aberford Road, Garforth, on October 29 last year.

Mr Starbuck was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, where he later died.

Detectives found that the confrontation triggered Mr Starbuck's heart attack and that the push directly caused his death.

CCTV helped identify Childe, who was initially charged with murder before pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Detective Superintendent Matt Holdsworth, the senior investigating officer, said: "The thorough investigation conducted by our officers was able to prove that Childe was responsible for causing the needless death of Mr Starbuck, whose family are still coming to terms with their sudden loss.

"I hope this outcome will give them some comfort as they try to move forwards with their lives."
