If you are looking for a historic gastropub close to the coastline, you might want to try the Beehive.
The Beehive can be found just outside of Whitley Bay and offers guests a quiet spot to enjoy a meal.
If you are lucky with the weather, you can have a pint while sitting in the “secret garden” hidden around the back of the pub.
What is the Beehive like?
The Beehive is found in a Grade II listed building that was built in the 18th century with lots of “old charm and character”.
The pub has low wooden beamed ceilings and “charming snug dining areas” that create a “quaint atmosphere”.
At the pub, you can enjoy a range of pub classic dishes from fish and chips and shepherds pie to sirloin steak and steak and ale pie.
If you just want something to tide you over at lunch, there are a range of sandwiches to choose from filled with things like roast beef, Korean fried chicken, and battered fish goujons.
If you visit on a Sunday, you can enjoy the pub’s Sunday lunch where you can choose from roast beef, pork, chicken or slow-cooked brisket of beef that all come with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, swede mash, and seasonal vegetables.
If you need something sweet to finish off your meal, there are a few desserts to choose from like triple chocolate brownie and a homemade sticky toffee pudding.
