Paisley Halloween Festival has been cancelled due to severe weather forecast across Renfrewshire.

Renfrewshire Council confirmed the second day of the popular festival will no longer go ahead as an amber weather warning for wind is set to come into force.

It comes after Friday's programme went ahead as planned, with thousands turning out in Paisley town centre for the first night of the two-day event.

Crowds gathered for the Halloween parade, live performances, light displays and family entertainment as this year's Haunted House-themed festival got underway.

However, following continued monitoring of the weather, the council has now taken the decision to cancel Saturday's programme.

In an update, Renfrewshire Council said: "The planned events for the Paisley Halloween Festival today (Saturday 24 October) have been cancelled, due to severe weather forecast and an amber weather warning for wind.

"We’re really sorry to have to do this and for any inconvenience but your safety and enjoyment is our priority.

"We have been monitoring the situation closely and have taken advice from our contractors and health and safety team."

Anyone who purchased tickets for the grandstand seating for tonight's event will be refunded and contacted directly by email.

The council added: "We’d like to thank everyone who turned out to Friday’s festival and helped create such a fantastic atmosphere across the town."

Saturday's programme had been due to feature another Halloween parade through Paisley town centre, alongside live performances, light displays and family entertainment.

The parade was scheduled to begin at 7pm, with Spark! LED Drummers and Uncle Doom and his Organ of Gloom among the returning performers.

Ember the Dragon, Granny Turismo and Show Globes were also due to feature as part of the festival's Haunted House theme.
