Attractions in North Yorkshire are set to close as Storm Boelo hits the county with 60mph gusts forecast.

The Met Office has issued yellow warning for wind from 12pm on Saturday (October 24) until 9pm on Sunday warning travel disruption is expected along with power cuts.

Flying debris is also "likely" and the storm will "probably" bring some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, the forecaster said.

Storm Boelo (pronounced Boo-loh) will follow Storm Austen, the first named storm of the season, which has brought disruption across south west England and Wales on Friday.

Forbidden Corner which will close on Sunday

Forbidden Corner in Leyburn said it will close on Sunday due to the forecast winds of up to 60mph.

A spokesperson for the mostly outdoor attraction, which features a maze of tunnels, chambers, follies and more in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, said it would close for safety reasons.

"We apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience, but we want to make sure your visit is memorable for the right reasons, not because you blew away," they said.

"Stay safe, keep dry, and we'll see you back in the labyrinth once the winds die down."

In York, attractions remain open but forecasters are expecting rain and 40mph winds on Saturday, rising to around 55mph on Sunday.

River levels remain low in York after a prolonged period of dry weather but will start rising slightly from Sunday – however, there is no risk of flooding.

Low water levels in reservoirs and rivers also mean Yorkshire remains in drought status.
