York has taken the top spot, boasting more fitness facilities per resident than anywhere else in Yorkshire and the Humber.
The ranking comes from a new national study that compared gyms, swimming pools, and outdoor activity options across England’s local authorities.
York stood out for its high number of gyms and leisure centres, with 43 facilities — 2.1 per 10,000 residents — well above the national average of 1.6.
The city also leads the region in public swimming pools per head, with 16 pools serving its population.
The study evaluated all 294 local authorities in England across 15 measures, including access to gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools, parkruns, parks, cycle routes, and air quality.
York secured second place overall in the Yorkshire and Humber region, just behind North Yorkshire, with a score of 56.7 out of 100, placing it 57th in England.
A spokesperson for AdultWork, the organisation behind the study, said: "Where you live has a big effect on how easy it is to fit exercise into everyday life.
"A gym, a pool, or a traffic-free path close to home makes it far simpler to build a regular workout routine.
"Regular exercise does a lot for how people feel about themselves, and a gym class or sports club is one of the best ways to meet new people.
"Living somewhere that makes exercise easy can make a real difference to both."
North Yorkshire finished first in the region and was the only local area to make the national top 50, ranking 40th in England.
Calderdale ranked third with a score of 52.3, while Sheffield followed in fourth place with 51.2.
North Lincolnshire rounded out the top five with a score of 50.3.
Kirklees was ranked the lowest in the region, with a score of 40.7 out of 100, placing it 270th in England.
Bradford was second-from-bottom in Yorkshire and the Humber, ranking 263rd nationally.
The study used data from Sport England, the Environment Agency, the Met Office, DEFRA, and Ordnance Survey.
