There are serious problems in Scarborough tonight (Friday).
Much of the town centre has been hit by flash flooding after heavy rain.
Cars are getting stranded in floodwater and police are urging people to stay away.
Flooded areas include Manor Road, Scalby Road, Valley Road, Valley Bridge, Filey Road, Ramshill Road, and the surrounding streets.
North Yorkshire Police posted: “Pedestrians and motorists are asked to avoid the centre of Scarborough due to flooding in the town.
“Emergency services are at the scene where a number of vehicles have become stuck in flood water.
“Please observe the road closures and take advice from the police and fire and rescue service at the scene.
“Rain is expected to continue into this evening.
“Please stay safe and avoid the area while emergency services work to keep everyone safe.”
The problems come before Scarborough and the rest of North Yorkshire fall under a yellow wind warning.
That’s been issued by the Met Office ahead of Storm Boelo rolling in. The warning applies form 12pm tomorrow (Saturday, 24 October) and 9pm on Sunday.
Gusts could be as high as 80mph in exposed coastal areas.
