Reminder: Most trains from York replaced by buses this weekend

Passengers are being reminded that there’s major disruption on the railways around York this weekend.

Most trains from York Station will be replaced by buses.

Only a few services, including those to Scarborough, are running as normal.

From Saturday (24 October) until Sunday 1 November, no trains will run on the mainline between York and Leeds.

And both this weekend (24-25 October) and next (Saturday 31 October-Sunday 1 November), trains between Darlington, York and Doncaster will also be replaced by buses.

The nine-day closure of the York-Leeds route is so the old railway bridge at Church Fenton can be replaced by a new one as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Other weekend closures are to allow engineers to carry out a major programme of improvements on the East Coast Main Line.

“Track, drainage and overhead line equipment will be renewed across various North Yorkshire locations to provide smoother, more reliable journeys,” Network Rail says.
