A woman was raped in York last night (Thursday).
Police were called to near the city walls on Walmgate at about 10.45pm.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene.
He has since been released on conditional police bail.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the victim, a woman in her 40s, is receiving care and support from specialist agencies.
Their investigation is ongoing. Detectives are urging any witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.
