A van advertising vehicle tax services has been seized – after it emerged it didn’t have valid vehicle tax.
The van displaying a large advertisement reading "TAX YOUR CAR WITH NO LOGBOOK" was spotted in the BD3 area, with records showing that it was not taxed.
It has been removed and is now being held at Bradford Council's vehicle pound pending contact from the owner.
It could be crushed if it is not claimed.
Council operation
The seizure was part of ongoing enforcement works to tackle untaxed vehicles across the district.
The operation uses powers granted to the council in 2023, allowing it to remove vehicles without valid tax, as well as vehicles registered as Statutory Off Road Notification vehicles that are parked on adopted or unadopted highways, or on open-air land such as supermarket car parks.
Vehicle can be reclaimed by its registered keeper provided they can demonstrate that the vehicle has now been taxed or that it will be kept off the road on private property.
Vehicles that remain uncollected may ultimately be disposed of, including being crushed.
'This case may raise a smile'
Councillor Andrew Judson, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Economy, Regeneration and Planning said: "While the circumstances of this case may raise a smile, vehicle tax is a legal requirement and our enforcement teams will continue to take action against vehicles that are being used or kept illegally on public roads and other public spaces."
"The powers available to the council help us tackle untaxed and SORN vehicles more effectively, improving compliance and helping to keep roads and public spaces clear."
