Pupils and students have been given an immersive look at what it’s like to work in the NHS through a hands-on careers event.
The session was hosted by University Hospitals Tees at the Health and Social Care Academy at the University Hospital of Hartlepool.
Attendees followed the journey of a fictional 14-year-old patient named Toby, who injured his ankle while bowling, and experienced the care pathway from injury to recovery.
Suzanne Coyle-Watson, careers coordinator, said: "The key to successful careers events is making them as engaging and interactive as possible.
"By giving students a patient scenario, they can see first-hand how our healthcare teams work together to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
"Our Health and Social Care Academy facilities, including the immersive suite and simulation bays, help create exciting, hands-on learning experiences that bring healthcare careers to life."
Students took part in a simulated emergency response at a virtual bowling alley, travelled in a virtual ambulance, and experienced treatment in a mock urgent and emergency care department.
They then moved through a series of simulation bays, learning about roles including paramedics, paediatric nurses, radiographers, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapists.
The event also featured conversations with healthcare professionals, giving attendees a chance to ask questions and learn about different career paths.

Feedback from teachers suggested students particularly enjoyed the practical sessions, with many noting the value of seeing the full patient journey from accident to rehabilitation.
University Hospitals Tees will host its next NHS careers event on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 5pm to 7:30pm at the Health and Social Care Academy, University Hospital of Hartlepool, TS24 9AH.
A spokesperson for the trust said: "Whether you’re a school or college student, a recent graduate, looking for a career change, or returning to work, this event is the perfect opportunity to explore the wide range of rewarding careers available with University Hospitals Tees."
