A REVAMP to part of York Station has been given the go ahead.

Refurbishments to the unit currently housing the Coffee Room between platforms seven and nine to make way for a new tenant have been approved.

Plans for the works stated they would see the outlet rebranded as Café Local and changes would provide an attractive, comfortable and safe environment for travellers and staff.

City of York Council planning officers stated no harm was identified in the plans to the station which is a Grade II*-listed building.

It comes after plans for the changes were lodged in July.

They are set to see new signs and branding bearing Café Local's logos and colour scheme installed outside and the inside fitted out with new equipment, furniture and decorations.

Plans stated the scale of Café Local would be the same as the existing concession.

The application stated: "The concept is to design a retail unit without affecting the special architectural features of the station building on the platform elevation.

"The design has been carefully developed to ensure that interventions are sympathetic, reversible where possible, and do not harm the significance of the listed building."

Council planning officers stated: "The proposed development comprises the repainting of timber skirting, windows and door frames.

"The existing store, preparation area and counter area largely remain unchanged.

"The customer area sees replacement chairs and tables in a slightly altered layout."
