Speaking about the contest, Press Editor Ben Hardy said: “York is blessed with an incredible range of curry houses and these restaurants are a huge part of our city's food scene and deserve to be celebrated.

"That's why we're delighted to launch The Press Best Curry House 2026 award and put the decision in the hands of our readers.

"Whether it's your local takeaway, the restaurant you visit for family celebrations, or the place that never fails to impress, we want to hear which curry house you think deserves the title.

"This award is all about recognising the businesses that consistently deliver great food, excellent service and a warm welcome. The passion readers show for supporting local businesses makes these awards so special.

"I would encourage everyone to get involved, cast their nomination and help us find York's favourite curry house. Every vote counts, and we can't wait to see which restaurants make it through to the final."
