A shopping trolley, traffic cones and road signs are among the items that are being cleared from a North Yorkshire river.
Following the hot weather over the summer the reduced river levels have revealed the rubbish in the River Derwent near County Bridge between Malton and Norton.
North Yorkshire Cllr Keane Duncan said he has been working with various agencies to secure the removal of the rubbish.
He said: "Some good news: The Environment Agency (EA) have confirmed their field team will remove the road sign located near the Mill Beck outfall. The sign has moved and is near the flap, preventing closure and posing a potential flood risk.
"Meanwhile, Malton & Norton Canoe Club are planning to do river clearance work. North Yorkshire Council will support this by picking up the retrieved items from the riverbank.
He added : “It is such a shame to see our river in this state. Responding to resident complaints, I have been liaising with the EA, North Yorkshire Council and other parties to secure a clean up of the debris. I am pleased the EA, canoe club volunteers and North Yorkshire Council are now stepping in.”
