A busy road in York will close for highway maintenance works for several hours today (Thursday, October 22).
City of York Council has issued a temporary traffic restriction for Skeldergate, between its junctions with Micklegate and Terry Avenue, close to the Skeldergate Bridge over the River Ouse.
The restriction will begin at 6pm and is due to end just before midnight, although if the works are completed it may open earlier, the council said.
The closure is needed so the maintenance can be completed safely.
Access for residents’ and emergency vehicles is expected to remain available throughout the works period.
Traffic signs and barriers will show where the restriction applies.
Access to premises will not be prohibited where it is not prevented by the work taking place.
Drivers will be diverted using Bridge Street, Low Ousegate, Nessgate, Clifford Street, Tower Street, Fishergate, Fawcett Street, Skeldergate Bridge, Bishopgate Street, Prices Lane and Nunnery Lane.
