Weather warning for parts of North Yorkshire as Storm Boelo rolls in

Parts of North Yorkshire are under a weather warning as a storm rolls in.

Over the weekend, Storm Boelo will hit parts of northern England with what the Met Office described as “impactful winds”.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued for the northern parts of the county, including Leyburn and Bedale.

The warning runs from 6pm on Saturday(24 October) to** 9pm on Sunday**.

There will be “widespread gusts” of 55-65mph widely, with these reaching up to 70-80mph in more exposed coastal locations, the Met Office added.

People in the affected area are warned to expect:

  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services affected
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

Storm Boleo follows Storm Austen, the first named storm of the season, which is expected to affect south-west England tomorrow (Friday).
