PEOPLE in towns and villages between Keighley and Skipton are being invited to have their say on how the area should develop.

A town investment plan is being drawn up for the area, including Glusburn, Cross Hills and Sutton-in-Craven, as well as Cowling, Cononley, Farnhill, Kildwick and Lothersdale, laying out how the 'key centre' should evolve over the next five to ten years.

Residents, visitors and business owners can have their say by taking part in an online survey, which closes on December 6, or go along to one of two drop-in events at South Craven Library, Cross Hills, on Saturday (October 24) from 10am to 12 noon; or on Monday, November 9, from 4pm to 6pm.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Council said the council wanted to know what people loved about living or visiting the area, and what would make it a better place to live, work, or explore.

The council also wants to know how people see South Craven evolve over the next five to 10 years.

"Help us identify the biggest challenges and the most exciting opportunities to improve South Craven, enhance the environment and create spaces that benefit everyone," says the spokesperson.

The online survey asks questions such as what is the best thing about South Craven, such as its shops, or tourism offer.

Another question asks what are the challenges of the area - such as access to services, housing, opportunities for young people, parking and traffic congestion, or public transport.

The survey also asks people to rate employment opportunities in the area and further education provision, and what barriers or challenges there are for businesses.

South Craven is one of 32 towns and 'key centres' to benefit from the £1.2 million town investment plans programme - a joint project between North Yorkshire Council and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Each plan will provide a clear framework setting out an area's strengths, challenges and key priorities, which will be used to target and allocate future funding effectively.

Other plans in the Craven area are in Bentham, Grassington and Threshfield, Ingleton, Settle and Skipton.

At the October Skipton and Ripon area committee meeting of North Yorkshire Council, York and North Yorkshire Mayor, David Skaith, criticised the length of time the investment plans were coming through.

Officers replied that the Ripon City Investment Plan was nearing its draft stage while the Skipton Town Investment Plan was progressing following extensive public engagement.

Ingleton's plan will be the last to be developed.
