Work has begun on a major redevelopment project that promises to transform a town centre.
The £18 million scheme will revitalise Dewsbury Market as part of Kirklees Council’s Dewsbury Blueprint, a long-term plan to create a more vibrant and welcoming town centre.
Councillor John Hardie, cabinet member for regeneration, highways and transport, said: "This is an important moment for Dewsbury.
"The market is part of the town’s identity, and this investment is about protecting that heritage while creating a space that works for today and for generations to come."

The redevelopment will preserve the market’s historic architecture while introducing a more flexible, future-proof layout.
It also includes plans for a new town park and outdoor events space with a children’s play area, water fountains, planting and local artwork.
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2028.
During the works, a temporary market will continue operating across Market Place, Longcauseway and Foundry Street.
Kirklees Council said this would allow traders to serve customers throughout the redevelopment.
Lee Powell, managing director of HBC Construction, said: "It's always exciting to get the first spades in the ground and start bringing a project to life."
