A driver reportedly speeding on a Bradford road ended up having their Audi seized.

West Yorkshire Police said officers clocked the car travelling at excess speed on Midland Road before pulling the vehicle over.

What initially appeared to be a speeding stop soon escalated when further enquiries were carried out.

Officers discovered the driver was not properly insured to be behind the wheel.

Police confirmed the driver had been reported to court for the offences identified during the stop.

A photograph released by police shows the Audi loaded onto a recovery truck after being taken away.

Part of road safety crackdown

The stop formed part of Operation Steerside, a campaign aimed at tackling dangerous driving and uninsured vehicles on West Yorkshire's roads.

Police used the incident to remind motorists of the importance of ensuring they have the correct insurance cover before getting behind the wheel, warning that those found driving uninsured risk having their vehicle seized as well as facing prosecution.

The force also linked the stop to its wider road safety campaigns, including Drive Insured and Vision Zero West Yorkshire, which aim to reduce serious collisions and improve safety for all road users.
