A personal training gym is celebrating after being shortlisted for one of the fitness industry's most prestigious national awards.

Power Personal Training, based on Bradford Road, has been named a finalist in the Regional Gym of the Year: North category at the National Fitness Awards.

The gym was founded in Menston in 2018 by Callum White and Tom Lamb before relocating to larger premises in Guiseley in 2023.

Since then, the business has built a strong reputation for its small-group coaching sessions, working primarily with people in their 40s, 50s and 60s, many of whom had previously felt uncomfortable or out of place in traditional gym environments.

Every training session is planned and led by a coach, and the gym has amassed more than 300 five-star reviews on Google.

Co-founder Callum White said the recognition reflected the efforts of both staff and members.

"A lot of the people who train with us once told themselves the gym wasn't for them," he said.

"This shortlisting is really theirs, and our coaches', who put real care into every session.

"Tom and I are very proud of what's been built here, whatever happens in Leicester."

Alongside its fitness programmes, Power Personal Training is also heavily involved in community activities and fundraising.

The gym is preparing to host a charity auction on Saturday, October 24, in support of Guiseley Memories Café, which provides support and social opportunities for people living with dementia and their carers.

The National Fitness Awards recognise excellence and achievement among fitness facilities across the UK, with shortlisted businesses stretching from Aberdeen to Cornwall.

Organised by Script Events and supported by headline sponsor Servicesport, the awards celebrate innovation, customer service and business success within the sector.

Following the shortlisting stage, finalists will undergo further judging, which may include a visit from an awards judge before an independent panel selects the winners.

The awards ceremony will take place at The Athena in Leicester on Friday, November 27, where Olympic silver medallist Gail Emms will reveal the winners.

National Fitness Awards event director Mike Hewitt said this year's competition had been particularly strong.

"We have had a record number of entries this year, with the standard across the board being excellent, a true testament to the innovation and strength of the vibrant UK fitness industry," he said.

"Getting on a shortlist has been more difficult than ever this year and it's a huge achievement for all those that have made the finals, truly the elites of the fitness world."
