Drivers using the M62 this morning are facing delays as congestion slows traffic on a busy section of the motorway.

Traffic monitoring services report delays of around eight minutes on the eastbound carriageway between J25 A644 Wakefield Road (Brighouse) and J27 M621 (Gildersome).

Vehicles are currently travelling at an average speed of 25mph through the affected area.

Congestion Causes Rush-Hour Delays

The disruption is affecting motorists travelling towards Leeds during the morning rush hour, with journey times increased due to slow-moving traffic.

While delays are reported to be easing, drivers are still being advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Traffic Conditions Improving

According to the latest traffic data, congestion was first recorded at 6.17am on Thursday, October 22 and is expected to clear by approximately 7.35am.

Average speeds remain well below normal motorway conditions, with traffic moving at around 25mph on the affected stretch.

Roadworks Visible on Traffic Maps

Traffic maps show several roadworks sites on the wider motorway network around the Birstall area, although it is not clear whether they are directly contributing to the delays.

Motorists are encouraged to check traffic conditions before setting off and plan ahead if travelling through the area during peak periods.
