WINTER rugby league is largely a thing of the past, but Bradford Bulls have one side playing now and thumping Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield Trinity.

WINTER rugby league is largely a thing of the past, except for the oft-cited Pennine League.

Anyone at Bulls’ near-frozen friendly with Doncaster in January would question whether we can truly say the winter era is fully behind us.

But officially, since Super League was ushered in as a summer competition in 1996, games in October, November and December have been slowly phased out in the British game.

Yet, one Bulls side have made an impressive start to their newly-begun season.

While the men’s first team, the women, the wheelchair players are all enjoying a rest, Bradford’s Little League Sports College Development Academy side are in the thick of the action.

LLS markets itself as “training the next generation of sports industry professionals” and their new Bulls team have certainly hit the ground running.

They played their first game at Tong earlier this month and they began with a bang, defeating bitter rivals Leeds Rhinos 30-10.

Bulls’ newest side then took on Wakefield Trinity, also at Tong, and claimed an even more emphatic victory, beating their visitors 56-20.
