Mike Palin has been named interim chief executive of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA).

He will take on the role from November 2, following a handover with outgoing chief executive Ben Still.

His appointment, the result of a competitive process led by the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE), is expected to be confirmed at a WYCA meeting on October 29.

Tracy Brabin, mayor of West Yorkshire, said: "We are delighted to welcome Mike to the Combined Authority during what is an exciting time for devolution.

"His experience of the public sector at a local, regional and national level, working across economic development, public service reform and housing, will be pivotal as we embark on an exciting new chapter in West Yorkshire’s history.

"I would like to repeat my warm gratitude to our outgoing chief executive Ben whose support throughout my time as mayor has been invaluable."

Mr Palin has held senior roles in government and regeneration and advised combined and local authorities on partnership working and organisational capacity.

He said: "I’m delighted to take on this role at such an exciting time for devolution in West Yorkshire and the Country as a whole.

"My background is in devolution, delivery and public service."
